Exclude WooCommerce products from Affiliate Referral calculations

Posted in

With Affiliates Pro WooCommerce Integration, is there a way to exclude certain products or product categories from the Affiliate Referral calculations?

If so, how does one do that?

Thanks,
Michael

Okay, I turned it on, and judging by the examples on the settings:

    > Indicate 0.1 for 10% commissions on this product.
    > Indicate 0 to exclude this product from commissions.
    > Leave empty if no product referral rate should be applied (default setting).

This item: Leave empty if no product referral rate should be applied (default setting).” seems to indicate that if you set just a single product to 0 and don’t enter anything for the rest, then the rest will just use the set Affiliate commissions.

    Is that correct?

    Also, this note seems inaccurate:

    > Important : Note that you must choose the Affiliates_WC_Method::product_rates
    > method under Affiliates > Setup for product rates to be applied in general, or
    > specify that method as an attribute for individual affiliates – otherwise
    > the product rates will not apply.

First of all, I’m assuming “Affiliates > Setup” refers to “Affiliates > Settings”. If so, there is no Affiliates_WC_Method::product_rates in the selection menu, which only lists:

    • None
    • Referral Amount
    • Referral Amount Method
    • Referral Rate

We’d been using “Referral Rate” and would like to keep that as the method, as we have varying rates set for our Affiliates.

    Please advise.

    Thanks,

      Hi Michael,

IF you’re using the product rates method with its default rate then it would work just as the normal referral rate except where product rates are used. So under Affiliates > Settings (yes you’re right, it’s not … > Setup) you choose the method and under Affiliates > WooCommerce Integration > Product rates : check “Enable …” and set the “Default rate” to 0.05.

One thing worth noting is that you can still have individual rates for affiliates but you can not set a rate per-product-per-affiliate.

I would recommend to make a few tests on a development instance of your site instead of the live one, so you can make sure that the settings you’re going to use are according to how you expect it to work.

      Cheers

Okay. How does this interact with Affiliate rates?

Ideally, the affiliate rates would apply to an order except for those products set to 0.

We still need to be able to have variable rates per Affiliate, we just need to exclude the value of certain products from the commissions.

    This is worrisome:

    > The default rate is used when no specific product rate applies.
    > Important : If you do not set a default rate and no product rate applies,
    > the resulting referral amount for an order will be zero.

It sounds like once you turn “Product rates” on, your Affiliate rates are ignored and you need to set rates per product for all products, which is not at all desirable.

I’m sorry this is not clear. What do you mean by “in your product edit page, if you set 0” — where exactly and set what to “0”?

Then, how does one “exclude this product from commissions (in Affiliates tab)”? I don’t see an “Affiliates” tab on the product page, nor anything related to products in the Affiliates section.

Is there documentation you can point me to on this?

    Thanks,
    Michael

      Hi Michael,

Under Affiliates > WooCommerce Integration you will find a section with details on enabling Product rates. Once these are enabled, the rates can be set for each product.

    Hi,
in your product edit page, if you set 0 then exclude this product from commissions (in Affiliates tab).
    cheers
