Affiliates PayPal Payments Standard won’t update

Posted in

Hi there,

My Plugins indicates that I need to update “Affiliates PayPal Payments Standard” but when I attempt to it fails with an unusual error saying that my support API is not up to date with an alternate provider (Elegant Themes) which I don’t understand how they are linked to yourselves.

The exact error message is:
“An error occurred while updating Affiliates PayPal Payments Standard: Your Elegant Themes username or API Key is incorrect. Please update your details in the Settings > General tab. Valid credentials are required to update your theme.”

I have a lifetime support key with Elegant themes and have manually confirmed that it is correct and can also update their other plugins so I don’t think that this is correct.

My assumption is that the error message is saying that the ITTHINX service key is either incorrect or out of date. I have double checked and the support key is definitely correct, but I cannot for the life of me tell if my subscription has expired. In fact in searching your site it does not mention anywhere (that I can find) how long a subscription is valid for when buying Affiliates Pro.

Please Please Please help me here as it is pointless having an affiliate program if I can’t take payments or may my affiliates.

Many thanks

Rob

    Hi Rob,

    Thanks for the suggestion on subscriptions timeout.
    When you want to install an integration, you don’t have to visit site since you can install it directly from your WP dashboard.

    FYI and possibly for future requests, wp-config.php is located in your WP installation folder.
    In general, debugging can be pretty handy when something goes wrong, as it usually contains valuable information on the error.

    Kind regards,
    George

    George,

    Thanks for this.

    Firstly I do have a valid subscription and still have approx 2 months left on the original purchase so not sure why the link to download the plugin does not work on your site as it says that I need to purchase Affiliates Pro which I clearly already own. Further the Service Key page should have some sort of expiry date on it to make it clear to your users.

    As to resolving the issues:

    I couldn’t work out how to do the debug thing as I’m not that technical but in removing the old plugin and going to the integration page as you instructed it installed the latest version so I appear to be back up and running again.

    Thanks for your help.

    Hi Rob,

    Each plugin from itthinx.com has these features, quoted from Terms and Conditions page:

    Each purchased download includes one year of access to downloads, support and updates. During this period, you will be able to access the file(s) in the Downloads section and receive support as outlined on the Support page. After this period, you will still be able to use the product(s) on your site, but in order to continue to access updates and use the premium support facilities, you need to renew your license(s). You are advised to download products immediately upon purchase and keep a backup, you will not be able to download products after this period unless you renew your access.

    After enabling debugging on your site, try to update the plugin once more, then paste the contents of your debug.log file in a pastebin and comment the link to the pastebin here.
    In order to enable debugging on your site, replace the following line in wp-config.php file:
    define('WP_DEBUG', false);
    with these lines:
    define('WP_DEBUG', true);
    define('WP_DEBUG_LOG', true );

    and finally add a file named debug.log in your wp-content folder.

    As for the issue, you can safely delete Affiliates PayPal Payments Standard plugin and then reinstall the integration from Affiliates>Settings>Integrations.

    Kind regards,
    George
