[Gave up] Affiliate hits are registered but referrals aren’t

Posted in

Hi,

This is a follow up on topic https://www.itthinx.com/topic/referrals-stopped-being-registered-but-hits-are/, and I see that I am not the only one having this issue by taking a quick look in the forum.

Unfortunately, the issue persisted even though the security plugin has been deactivated. To make things worse, it does work when I create a new referral so I though I had to create a new affiliate users with new link for it to work… After making my affiliate having to change all his links (luckily I only have one), it is still not working. Google analytics data shows that

I have never been able to use the plugin, even though I bought it more than a year ago. At this point I already gave up, I would like to request for a refund of the last renewal of the license.

Thank you and best regards,
Fran.

    Hi Kento,

After doing more digging yesterday I think I found the cause of the problem. The affiliates that were correctly tracked in the test were using “Direct bank transfer” method, which is easy to test than Paypal. However Paypal payments are the issue, they are not being tracked.

I just found out that there is a plugin to track paypal standard… Not sure how I missed this from the documentation, I assumed that all completed orders were being tracked. Do I need this to track paypal transactions?

I have set up paypal email, IPN in Paypals settings and thank you page in the plugin, however I can see that it is still not working (I am comparing to affiliate data reported by Google Analytics). I dont use Paypal buttons so I am not sure if this plugin is needed for me.

What you mentioned about disabling the page from caching, that seems pretty straightfrward with WP-engine but I am afraid that unless you know how to do it with varnish cache (I am sure I’m not the only one using it, maybe a tutorial could help others too) I won’t be able to set it up on my own. I know varnish is disabled for pages like /buy/ and /checkout/ but I dont know how to do it so that all pages are not cached for visits with referral codes.

      Hi Fran,

Thanks for the details on that and sorry for the late reply. With the setup you have described and based on the previous comments in the earlier topic everything should be working fine. In any case, I’ve seen your request and we have refunded the renewal. If you’re interested in us having a look later on, please let me know.

      Cheers

    Hi Fran,

Based on our discussion on the topic you have mentioned it worked fine after my tests. If you’d like to have a look at the Troubleshooting section you will find that depending on the setup the URL parameter may need to be taken into account, i.e. it should be excluded from caching. Maybe that’s what’s happening on your site.

In any case, if you’re not going to use it we can of course refund your renewal order #10577, please confirm in that case.

    Cheers
