Referrals Amount Not Tracked

Posted in

It’s pretty obvious that the affiliate module is still not giving our affiliates credit for referrals. This has really been a disaster. 95% or more of these orders are from customers using links from my affiliates. They’re still all coming in as direct.

    Hi Jesse,

    Thanks for providing access.

    It seems that your installation doesn’t allow storing the affiliate cookie. The affiliate cookie is stored whenever a customer follows an affiliate link, and if this cookie has a valid affiliate id, the respective affiliate is granted with a referral. There are several reasons why this might occur, like an issue with some other conflicting plugin, a conflict with your theme, or even your hosting server blocking the affiliate cookie.

    Please note that in case your site is hosted in WP Engine, you should take a look at this guide and ask WP Engine support to exclude the Affiliate URL parameter from caching.

    If this is not your case and since your site is running live atm, i would recommend you to create a staging copy where i can perform some more thorough tests like disabling plugins and switching to a default theme.
    Also, for the staging site i would like you to enable WP debugging like this:
    To enable it, edit your wp-config.php file and replace the following line:
    define(‘WP_DEBUG’, false );
    with these lines:

    define(‘WP_DEBUG’, true );
    define(‘WP_DEBUG_LOG’, true );
    after that, add a file named debug.log under your wp-content folder.

    Kind regards,
    George

      George,

      Thank you for the direction on this…it turned out to be a host issue…we tested it on several different themes disabled plugins to see if we had conflicts but could not get the cookie to load. We have our host refresh our host account and it seemed to resolve the issue.

      It took a while but I would recommend that if referral tracking is not working, check the cookie that loads when you use an affiliate URL first and then start looking other places.

      Thx again for the support

      Jesse

    I have placed several test orders and it doesn’t matter which affiliate ID I use I can get any affiliate referrals to track sales:
    https://www.screencast.com/t/t1CcA94u2ov

    I disabled direct referral tracking and then placed an order with the following URL https://winecountryconnection.net/?wcc=12 and there was no referral associated with the order.

    It appears I have a similar issue to these threads
    https://www.itthinx.com/topic/woocommerce-affiliates-pro-not-tracking-referrals/
    https://www.itthinx.com/topic/tracking-hitsvisits-correctly-but-not-counting-referrals/

    I also have “Allow Auto-Referral” enabled so I should not have an issue tracking the referral as in the second post.

    I setup a support user for you to take a look @ https://winecountryconnection.net

    Please take a look and let me know.

    Thank you ~ Jesse

    I tested affiliate tracking on our site and this is what I found

    Affiliate George Bato
    Affiliate ID = ?wcc=13

    I used the following link and confirmed that the # of hits is not going up:
    https://winecountryconnection.net/product-category/wine-club/?wcc=13

    I placed two orders with the above link and they both were tracked as “Direct” affiliate orders.

    Please advise ~

    Thank you,

    Hi Jesse,

    What do you mean by “Affiliates Names are sometimes not being captured”?
    In your screenshot, the name is “Direct” because it refers to the direct affiliate. If the referral was initially credited to another affiliate, this means that the initial affiliate has been deleted.

    Hope it helps.

    Cheers,
    George

    George,

    The Amount now is being tracked. Thanks, Another problem is that the Affiliate Names are sometimes not being captured. almost 80->85% of the transactions names are not being tracked.

    Anything we can do about this?

    Hi Jesse,

    Have you tested the process yourself with a test affiliate? Also, what setting do you use for your commission calculations?

    You can always send me temp admin access to your Dashboard to george@itthinx.com. I will review your settings and perform some tests. Also, i would recommend you to take a full backup of your site files and database, and enable debugging.

    To enable it, edit your wp-config.php file and replace the following line:
    define('WP_DEBUG', false );
    with these lines:

    define('WP_DEBUG', true );
    define('WP_DEBUG_LOG', true );

    after that, add a file named debug.log under your wp-content folder.

    Kind regards,
    George
