Referrals for Affiliates

Posted in

Hi,

This is what I’d like to achieve with the Affiliates Pro plugin but need some expert help on the details of how to implement it.

First of all, affiliates of our site get commission based on the total amount of money spent by their referrals. So instead of using clicks and visits, we use referrals. Affiliates of our site should be able to see new users they referred in the Affiliate Area and the money they spent on our services.

secondly, I read from the documentation, https://www.itthinx.com/plugins/affiliates, that Referrals are recorded by request through the use of an API function. Is this something I need to customize and integrate to the site? or is it included as part of the plugin by default? If the later, how do I configure the plugin and what short code(s) to use to get these details?

Lastly, how do I add the affiliates to the user registration form so that a new user would be tied to an affiliate from the very beginning if she was indeed referred by an affiliate?

Thanks in advance for your help!

    Hi,

I’d like to provide a detailed list of referrals (referral’s id + date when user became a referral of the affiliate) for each affiliate in the Affiliate Area. Is this something I can display with one of the available shortcode? If not, is this something easy to achieve?

    Thank you so much!

    Hi,

    I used [affiliates_affiliate_profile edit_name="true" edit_email="true" edit_attributes="paypal_email"/] but the form does not contain a field for “paypal_email”.

Am I using the short code correctly?

    thanks,

      Hi,
you must use “show_attributes” before, in your case:
      [affiliates_affiliate_profile edit_name="true" edit_email="true" show_attributes="paypal_email" edit_attributes="paypal_email"/]
      cheers

    Hi Kento,

Could you elaborate a bit more on #2? I don’t see any field asking for referral id or username when signing up as a new user? How can I check which affiliate a new user is under?

    thank you,

When a new user click the affiliate link (for example: http://www.mydomain.com?affiliate=23), the user goes to mydomain.com, but a cookie is saved with affiliate information. So if the user is registered, affiliates plugin use this information.

    Hi Antonio,

I am working on the affiliate part of the site now.

Thanks for your help. In regards to the last question, I think the “Affiliates Member” plugin is exactly what I need. However, I have three follow-up questions.

    1. I noticed the Affiliates Member plugin was developed back in 2011, is it still compatible with Affiliates Pro 2.4.2 (that’s the version I have installed) and WP 3.6.1?

    2. It says the plugin would ask a new user to specify a referral when signing up. Does plugin do it automatically or do I need to add a specific field to the registration form?

    3. I am using this plugin (http://codecanyon.net/item/user-profiles-made-easy-wordpress-plugin/4109874) for user registration. Would Affiliates Member be compatible with a 3rd party plugin?

Thank you so much for the help! Appreciate it.

#1 Yes that should still work, but in any case, I would recommend to do proper testing on a development site to make sure that the combination of plugins you intend to deploy will work together as expected.
#2 It would record a referral automatically when appropriate upon registration.
      #3 See #1 😉

Once you’ve tried it, let us know if you need further help please. From what you’ve mentioned, I think it should work fine.

    Hi,
You can use [affiliates_referrals] and [affiliates_affiliate_stats] shortcodes to show information about referrals, please take a look to affiliates shortcodes documentation.

Affiliates get commissions based in referrals, and get this commissions automatically, no need you implement nothing. Only if you need a custom funtion, or need more functionality, you can use API to extend Affiliates system.

Do not really understand the last question. If you need create a referral with new user registration, take a look to Affiliates Memeber however, if you need create affiliates accounts for new users automatically, take a look to Affiliates User.
    cheers
