“Registration Error” / “The username does not exist”

Posted in

Hi there!

I’ve purchased/installed Affiliates Pro but every time I try to register on this page (https://nicolasalter.com/affiliate-area/), it returns a ‘Registration Error’ message. I’ve tried adding the code via multiple methods (sans page builder, with the page builder via a text block and with a code block, etc), but no luck.

I can’t seem to create an affiliate from the backend either via Affiliates > Manage Affiliates > New Affiliate. Whenever I try, it returns the error message, “The username does not exist.” I also find it odd that when trying to manually add a new affiliate myself with this method, the name field doesn’t correspond to the First Name and Last Name fields I have set up (it only shows one space for that). It also doesn’t give me the option to set a password from there.

I’ve read through about 8 other ‘Registration Error’ threads and didn’t seem to have any luck finding a solution that worked. I’d be happy to create an admin account for you if you can provide me with your email address.

Thanks!!

    Hey Nicola,

I had another look and tried to register as a new user/affiliate and the error you get, Registration Error!, occurs even if the user data haven’t been used on your site. Since the error message itself is not related to Affiliates Pro I checked your other plugins and as it seems it comes from the plugin, Invisible reCaptcha, which once deactivated allows me to register properly.

I have re-activated the plugin, but make sure to test a registration with this addon deactivated and let me know if the issue with registrations persists.

    Kind regards,
    George

    Hi Nicola,

Thanks for providing access to your site. The reason why you get the registration error is as indicated because the username already exists. You can notice the difference if you are logged-in and visit the affiliate registration page, the registration form will be pre-filled with your existing data.

When a visitor tries to register as an affiliate there are two records created, a user record and an affiliate record connected to the user. This new user is also an affiliate and when trying to login to your site or the affiliate area page, he/she will use the user credentials. The difference between a user and an affiliate user is that the affiliate user has also access to the affiliate area page and can use the affiliate tools to get commissions.

On the other hand when an existing user wants to register as an affiliate, all they need to do is first login and then complete the affiliate registration form to become affiliates.

    Kind regards,
    George

To test it, I’ve been accessing the registration page from a new Incognito window and signing up with one of my alternative emails / usernames. I’ve double-checked my Users area, and there’s no record of that user anywhere. I’ve tried it with a second alternative email that isn’t already a user as well.

I also tried it as an existing user and it returned this error: “ERROR: This email is already registered, please choose another one. Registration Error!”

Could you try creating one on my site and see if you’re getting the same errors?

      Thanks!

    Hi Nicola,

Welcome to our support forum and many thanks for using Affiliates Pro as your affiliate management tool.

I think so too, it would be better to have a look at your Dashboard, you may use my personal email account, george at itthinx dot com, and create a temp admin account on your site. I would like to create some test affiliate registrations on your setup.

    Kind regards,
    George
