Registration Form Bad Entries

Posted in

Hi Guys!

We’ve recently been getting bot entries / spammy entries through the Affiliates Pro registration form. This was never a problem before a few weeks ago (it may have followed an update to Affiliates Pro?). I found your Affiliates reCaptcha plugin and installed it. I thought it was working, but another bad entry came through today. Do you have any suggestions for further protecting that form?

Thanks!
-Erica

    Hi Eugen,

Yes, I had added the reCAPTCHA v2 site key and secret key to the plugin. It seemed to work for a couple of weeks.

The information entered wasn’t all legitimate. For example, I ask for dates in two fields and numbers in two others and they input random letters. It looked like a bot submitted the registration.

      Hi Erica,

Good morning and happy new week! I trust you are well and safe!

      Thank you for the feedback.

Please monitor it for the next couple of days and let me know if you receive any new bad entries. Also, please could you share a link to the registration form. I’ll also go ahead and run a couple more tests to see how I can best help.

STAY SAFE and I wish you a very fine week ahead!
      Best,
      Eugen.

          Hi Erica,

Good morning and thank you for sharing the URL.

It is worth mentioning that a captcha does not validate the user input. The reason why you are receiving some bad entries.

One quick solution would be to use a form that offers Affiliates integration such as Ninja Forms, then use our Affiliates Ninja Forms to allow Affiliates to sign up through forms handled with Ninja Forms.

You can read more on Affiliates Ninja Forms here.

STAY SAFE and I wish you a very fine day ahead!
          Best,
          Eugen.

    Hi Erica,

Good morning. I trust you are well and safe!

Thank you so much for reaching out and for asking your question.

Please have you already registered your site on http://www.google.com/recaptcha/ and generated the Site and Secret reCAPTCHA keys for your site? If not please navigate to http://www.google.com/recaptcha/ and register your site, then proceed to Affiliates > reCAPTCHA and input the Site Key and the Secret Key.

It is worth mentioning that Affiliates reCAPTCHA integration works with reCAPTCHA v2, it does not work with reCAPTCHA v3. Hence, please when registering your site please ensure the reCAPTCHA type is set to reCAPTCHA v2.

If you’ve done the above already, then perhaps the person, is deliberately bypassing the reCAPTCHA.

    Please let me know.

I remain available if you have any further inquiries!
    Best,
    Eugen.
