Sometimes form submissions are not credited to correct affiliate

Posted in

I am using Affiliates Pro and Contact Form 7 with the Integration program. Mostly, everything is working perfectly.

I am just using this for lead generating purposes. So each affiliate has their own code – ?code=xx. On the website there is a form to fill out, and the form results are to go to that specific affiliate.

For the most part, everything is perfect. The forms are being filled out, and the affiliate is receiving the form results in an email. I have notifications setup and I am also getting a copy.

But about 15-20% of the time, it is being attached to “Direct” Affiliate ID – 1.

I don’t understand how this is happening. I am having my affiliates get a domain name and Forward w/Masking to their affiliate link. So there is no variable there. The link is always the same. Yet sometimes my affiliates are losing the referral to “Direct.”

Can you help me figure out what is happening?

The website is http://LiveSportsAppInfo.com. The form is under the link, Become an affiliate, or become a player.

Thanks.

Thank you. I found that, and it’s set at 60 days.

I think I figured out the problem. I found a setting under Settings / Referrals / Allow Auto Referrals, and checked that.

After looking at that, I realized that the problems seemed to come when people were testing the link, using their own email. So hopefully that fixed it.

Thank you for all your help. 🙂

    Hi Lynn,

You can set cookie expiration under Affiliates > Settings > Referrals under Referral timeout. A cookie is stored in your browser, so after following an affiliate link, check your browser for a cookie named wp_affiliates.

    Cheers,
    George

The cookie thing is what I was thinking. But I know nothing about that. How do I make sure a cookie is even being set, or is it possible to change the time before the cookie expires?

    Hi Lynn,

The Direct Affiliate gets a referral whenever there is no other affiliate applicable and the option to store Direct Referrals is checked under Affiliates > Settings. Another possible reason for that is an expired cookie. A new visitor has clicked an affiliate link, the cookie containing the affiliate id was stored, but has expired before the visitor did any further action.

    Kind regards,
    George
