Adding Affiliate Role to Existing Users

Posted in

Hi there…

We occasionally have users that want to become affiliates. When they attempt to sign up to be an affiliate, they can not use their existing password. Is there a solution for doing this? I’m sure I’m just missing something.

Thank you so much.

PS Please note that if you just render the GF form which allows to register, that won’t work for the same reason as above – the email can’t be used to register another account. The form would allow to register a new account, but not sign up as an affiliate with an existing account. Thus the suggestion to use the alternative [affiliates_registration] for users who are logged in.

Yes. I am using the Gravity Forms integration. If I try to join as an affiliate, using the existing user information, I get an error that says the email already exists. Could I have this set incorrectly?

      Hi Jean,

You can’t register another affiliate account with an email that is already taken by an existing user account.

If you want to register as an affiliate but already have an account, then the [affiliates_registration] shortcode will render the appropriate form. This is the shortcode that is included in the Affiliate Area which is generated from Affiliates > Settings > Pages. You can use it as an alternative if you allow users to register an affiliate account through your GF form. You can use the conditional shortcodes [affiliates_is_affiliate] and [affiliates_is_not_affiliate] for that and render one or the other.

Please give it a try and let us know if that helps.

      Cheers

If you try and join the affiliate program, it gives an error that the username and email already exists. Is there another way around this? What if the user wants to use the same email as they are already using?

    Hi Jean,
when a registered user wants to be an affiliate, he needs to logged in normally and visit the affiliate-area page, then he only needs to join to the affiliate program.
    Kind Regards,
    Antonio B.
