non-logged in users can still view products

Just recently bought the plugin add-on on restrict group categories. I have successfully configured/set-up restriction for two of my loged-in group. The problem is, all my product categories is now NOT visible to non-logged in users. How can I set-up groups for non-logged in users that will allow them to still view my products and categories.

    Hi Mark,

Thanks for describing your use case in detail.
Although this scenario is not supported ( as you already have noticed it), i will see if it can be covered in a future release of the Groups and Groups Restrict Categories plugins.

    Kind regards,
    George

By the way George as a work around(and I am not exactly thrilled with it). I installed another plugin that controls content permission based on roles instead of a defined group. Here is what I did:
    – I uninstalled Group Restrict Category,
    – installed a plugin that uses roles to crudely define my groups and assigned permission limits.
    – Disabled Add to cart in the woocommerce visibilty tab.
    – Set content restrictions using shortcodes and roles.

so far it seems to satisfy my requirement. Thank you for all the patience.

    Hello George,

My website is a wholesale website, as such here is how i have it currently configured:
    – non-logged in users(consumers) can’t purchase from the website but use it as a reference when ordering or viewing products before purchasing in a local store(ex. macy’s or nordstorm) or retailer where they can make the purchase.
    – retailers have to sign-in to allow them to purchase the product in wholesale. I have two types of retailers – one that have access to all the category and another with limited access.

The groups plugin is a great plugin to manage the different groups that access the site. Unfortunately, given the scenario of described above, the plugin makes my site unusable for visitors(non-logged in users). I hope that you will consider including a functionality that allows visitors/guest as a group.

This case scenario is typical in the wholesale industry where it is important for visitors to view products on the site because they can be potential retailers and would want to sign-up/register as one. Disallowing visitors to view the product limits the site’s flexibility and function.

    Hi Mark,

If non-logged in users would see restricted categories, that would void the Groups plugin main function.
Also, can you please confirm that non-logged in users can see all the categories apart from the restricted ones.

    Cheers

    Hello George,

What I wanted to do is allow non-logged-in users to view all products. I have the website currently configured to restrict specific categories base on a defined Group(when logged-in). Unfortunately, this approach resulted to having all my categories not visible when a user is logged-out. I wanted all non-logged-in user/visitor/guest to see my product categories. Is there a way to set-up groups for non-logged-in users?

Any help would be most appreciated.

    Thanks!
    Mark

    Hi Mark,

Please correct me if i’m wrong. You are trying to restrict specific categories from non-logged-in users?
If that is your case, then you should add the desired Group to these specific categories only. For this, visit your Dashboard, then Products>Categories and edit the desired categories( if you use WooCommerce ).

    Kind regards,
    George
