1) default role for affiliate account is wordpress subscriber role. we wanted them to use customer roles because everyone logs in with the woocommerce my-account page. when they register as a customer, then access the affiliate-area page to sign up they submit the fields including additional fields to be marked as pending. under manage affiliates tab in the admin area the additional fields they entered are not filled in/are not saved from the affiliate registration page.
(two problems, cant sign affiliates up as customers, and customers when registering the additional fields do not save)

We have available the Affiliates Role plugin that you can use as reference to assign the new affiliates to the Customer role.
