Groups 404 Redirect not working

Posted in

I downloaded and activated Groups 404 Redirect. In settings, Redirect to wordpress login is checked and the Redirect restricted categories is checked. Yet when one not in the group selects the restricted content, he/she still gets a 404 error. The Groups 404 Redirect plugin is not working.
Groups v 2.3.0
Groups 404 Redirect v1.4.0
Groups Restrict Content v 2.1.0

    Hi John,

Thanks for the access credentials. After disabling the other plugin and enabling Groups 404 Redirect, I’ve created a Test group and this page http://www.ctri.club/2017/09/02/test-2/ which is restricted to members of the Test group. Under Groups > Groups 404 I’ve first left the settings as they were, i.e. to redirect to the home and tried to access that post as a plain visitor and it redirected me to the home so that worked fine.
Then I’ve set it to redirect to your Members page (ID 66), and again tried to visit that post and it redirected me to the Members page. So this worked correctly, also.
Then I’ve tried to visit http://www.ctri.club/2017/08/10/ctri-club-info-for-members/ which is restricted by category and it also redirected me to the Members page.

Based on these tests, it’s all working fine on your site. Maybe there’s some use case you were expecting it to cover which isn’t, if that’s the case then please let me know which process you were using and what you expected to happen. We can then consider adding a feature to the plugin if it’s of use in general.

I’ll leave things set up so you can see for yourself.

    Cheers

The Groups 404 Redirect does not work with all other plugins deactivated. There is no conflict with other plugins. I installed a plugin called “All 404 Redirect to Home Page”. It works as advertised.

      Hi John,

Can you please send us temporary admin and FTP credentials to support at itthinx dot com so we can check your settings and run a quick test? We don’t see any issues with the Groups 404 Redirect plugin and I’d like to find out why it doesn’t seem to work on your site while the other plugin does. Even if the other plugin redirects all 404s (as the name seems to suggest – I haven’t tried that one myself), I suppose you still rather would like to have this when someone tries to access a restricted resource and not for all 404s.

      Cheers

    Hi John,

It seems like a conflict/ conflicting plugin.
Please have a look at your debug.log in case something unexpected, is logged there.
Another possibility could be that you are using a security related plugin that handles redirects and restricts the Groups 404 Redirect plugin to work properly.
What happens if you keep activated only Groups and Groups 404 Redirect?
Regarding the option to Redirect restricted categories, tags and taxonomy terms… this option works only if Groups Restrict Categories is installed.

    Kind regards,
    George
