Sale incorrectly allocated to Direct

Posted in

Hi,

I am testing Affiliate Pro and have the woocommerce integration installed. I do not have a caching plugin installed.

When I go to ‘Visits & Referrals’ I can see the visits, hits and referrals allocated correctly to the affiliate.

When I go to ‘Affiliates & Referrals’ I can see the visit & hits allocated correctly to the affiliate. However the referral is allocated to ‘Direct’.

When I go to ‘Totals’ the referral is allocated to ‘Direct’.

Can someone please help? I have checked previous posts but most seem to refer to the Varnish caching plugin however I do not have this installed.

Many thanks

I believe there was a caching option setup on the server that had been done automatically on their end. I asked them to check & turn off anything that was on. After they did that, it worked perfectly.

      Hi Rebecca,

That’s great to hear! Did they give any detail on what had to be adjusted on their settings?

      Happy Sunday 🙂

    Hi Rebecca,

After a few tests and having checked the setup in general, we can’t see anything in particular that would obviously interfere. What is happening though is that even though the incoming links are recognized (the system records the hits on affiliate links appropriately, as is evident under Affiliates > Traffic) the cookies are not created.

There are no traces of related errors in the debug.log, so we can rule that out.

My guess is that it’s something your hosting provider needs to adjust so those cookies can be created. Could you please contact them and check if they need to adjust anything so those cookies can be created? Hint for them: It’s important that cookies with names _h_affiliates and wp_affiliates can be created.

I hope that they can help you further with this, the rest of the setup looks good to me.

    Happy weekend!

    Thank you so much.

I’ve purchased the plugin twice. It is working ok on my site http://www.rebecca-page.com. It is my new site https://www.thesewingsummit.com/ that it is not allocated referrals as expected.

I’ve been through the troubleshooting article and I don’t believe I have any of these plugins or conflicts occurring.

I do not have a staging site for this, however the site doesn’t have any traffic yet (the event hasn’t launched yet). I would very much appreciate if you could please log in and check. Where should I sent temporary admin credentials to?

      Thanks Rebecca, I see 🙂

Can you please send the credentials over to support at itthinx dot com? You can create a temporary admin account for that email or send over existing admin credentials. Please also make sure to include FTP access as we might need to enable debugging (for that we need to adjust the configuration in the site’s wp-config.php). Please make sure to make a full backup of the site and database, not that we’re going to do anything weird, but just in case it’s good practice to have one handy.

    Hi Rebecca,

Thanks for using our system, let’s check what might be happening.

First I did a quick test to make sure that the system responds properly by visiting an affiliate link to the site https://rebecca-page.com using affiliate id 2 – the cookies are created properly so that’s ok.

Sometimes what happens is a confusion during testing, e.g. an invalid affiliate link used, so just to make sure:

    1. Visit the correct affiliate link, e.g. https://rebecca-page.com/?affiliates=2
    2. Using the same browser proceed to place an order.

That’s basically it, your affiliate should have the referral credited.

If this doesn’t happen, please first make sure to review the Troubleshooting section of the documentation to make sure that none of the issues covered there might be affecting the system.

Once the above is reviewed and you still don’t see the referral credited, we would need to dig deeper with temporary admin and FTP credentials to run tests on your site. For that case, if you have a staging site we could use it would be preferred.

    Cheers
