group and woocommerce product bundle plug-in interoperability

Posted in

Hi there

I am using group (itthinx), groups for woocommerce, woocommerce subscription and product bundle plugins

Product bundle: https://woocommerce.com/products/product-bundles/

I have successfully set up a bundle where there is a simple subscription included as a product. Now, for my bundle product, I have one set of Group(itthinx) assignments (add and remove) and then another one for simple subscription product that’s included inside the bundle.

Visually, it is like this.

Product Bundle (adds to group “foo”):
product 1 (simple product, adds to group “bar”)
product 2 (simple subscription, adds to group “moo”)

Now, questions:
1. what should I expect as far as the group memberships is concerned, once someone buys above bundle product?
2. what should I expect as far as the group memberships is concerned, once subscription expires and automatically gets renewed (Subscription plugin is set to do that)?

I am a little confused on those and want to make sure that my customers will remain members of correct groups when these event happens. I’d also appreciate if you can note down any related caveats to above scenario.

Thanks a bunch. as always great support from you folks and kudos for creating an awesome plugin!!

I couldn’t test out Subscription expiration since Subscription never really started in this configuration. However, something that I will chase up with Woocommerce folks!

    Thanks Antonio.

Through hit and trial, I found the following.

Yes, for Group (s) Addition, it works like you described.

However, for Groups removal, it gets a little tricky. It will first process removal on each child product and then it will process the parent/bundle product.

Not related to Groups, but I found it weird that Bundle didn’t start the subscription for a child product that’s indeed configured as Simple Subscription!

    Hi Afaq,
Really I have not tested the Woocommerce Product Bundle plugin, but I suppose if you buy the product, you will be added to the groups: foo, bar and moo
And when the subscription expires, you will lose access to moo.
You could create a ‘test product’ and try both plugins working together.
    Your feedback is welcome.
    Kind Regards,
    Antonio B.
