Deleting access restriction is deleting post!

Posted in

Hi,
I’ve been a long time Groups user. I’m on WP 6.0 and running the latest version of Divi. I have hundreds of posts where I used to use the Access Restrictions “Enforce Read Access” feature to control who sees what. I have since decided to switch the Groups “Read” functionality. There is a major issue though because when I delete the entries in the Enforce Read Access section and if I click publish, the post completely disappears on the website. I get a 404 error to the URL and it no longer shows up in the dashboard. I did dig through the PHPmyAdmin and I can see the post still exists on the database but it no longer shows up on the front end. I’m literally having to create a new blank post and copy the data from the database directly and paste it in in order to recreate the new post.

TLDR: Deleting the entries under “Enforce Read Access” on a post and then publishing is completely deleting the post from the dashboard and the frontend.

    Hi there Joel,

    Good evening. I trust you are well and safe!

    First off, please allow me to apologize for the delayed response to your inquiry. Please forgive me.
    Thank you so much for choosing and using Groups.

    With regards to your inquiry, please if you don’t mind, please enable WordPress debugging and share the debug.log file with me here:
    eugen [at] itthinx [dot] com. If you are not familiar with WordPress debugging, here’s how to go about it:

    In your site’s wp-config.php (this file is located in the root folder of your site) enable WordPress debugging by adding these lines:

    define( ‘WP_DEBUG’, true );
    define( ‘WP_DEBUG_LOG’, true );
    define( ‘WP_DEBUG_DISPLAY’, false );

    This will log any PHP notices, warnings, and errors to the log file. The log file typically resides in wp-content/debug.log.

    Furthermore, please if you can temporarily create a staging environment and share the admin login credentials with me, it would be very helpful. Please don’t post login credentials in the comment section. Please email them to me instead.

    I remain eager to help resolve this issue for you.

    STAY SAFE and I wish you a very fine and productive day ahead!
    Best,

Eugen.
