My admin panel throws up a server 500 error when I activate the plugin, removing the plugin folder fixes the issue.

Your php memory limit is currently 64.
First, get a backup of your site and then try increasing it by adding these lines to wp-config.php file.
/** Memory Limit */
define('WP_MEMORY_LIMIT', '96M');
If it doesn’t work with 96M, try also 128M.
